25 YEAR CLUB
The Colley Insurance 25 Year Club has expanded once again and the new member, Kim Folkerson, deserves an incredible amount of respect. Primarily because as the Commercial Insurance Manager she has had to work side-by-side with my father Peter, brother Brock and I for many of those years. Not only has she had to put up with us but she has ably handled many of the most complex insurance risks an insurance broker could be exposed to. And now, because she needed one more challenge, is actively involved in mentoring and training the 4th generation of Colley’s to enter the insurance business.
Kim started with Colley Insurance 25 years ago as a Personal Insurance Customer Service Broker. When the opportunity presented itself to move over to the Commercial Insurance department we all knew she was up to the challenge of making such a significant change. Kim immediately got to work devouring every bit of information about commercial insurance that she could. As a result she had the opportunity to work very closely with Peter and Brock on one of the largest and most complex manufacturing accounts in the area. It wasn’t long before all of Kim’s hard work paid off and she was made the manager of the Commercial Insurance department.
Because none of this was enough of a challenge for Kim she decided that Guelph needed to restart it’s long defunct broker’s association and was elected its first president. Kim also felt that Colley Insurance and the rest of Guelph’s brokers needed to be more active in pursuing higher professional and educational standards so she became a driving force behind the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker program in Guelph. After becoming one of its earliest graduates she became a course moderator and marker for the exams. Kim went on to continue her education and received her Canadian Professional Insurance Broker designation. Kim set the standard for education at Colley Insurance and as a result the vast majority of her colleagues have obtained or are working on their designations.
Kim’s not all business. She loves to have a good time and has been very involved in many of the social activities at Colley Insurance over the years. Ask her about the great armchair race of 2015. Ouch! She has also been very involved in the community but I think she would agree with me that her proudest achievement is raising her two sons with her husband Peter. Whether it was at Michael’s baseball games or Andrew’s basketball games Kim was always in the stands cheering them on. So let’s all return the favour and give a big cheer for Kim Folkerson.
Here’s to 25 great years Kim with many more to come!
